jewelry, gold jewelryIn one of my previous posts, I talked about a couple techniques to use when trying to shine silver jewelry. On the same note, I went researching techniques to clean gold jewelry. I know that all of the old pieces of gold jewelry myself and my family has collected from generations past has lost it’s luster so I decided it was time to figure out how to bring these family heirloom pieces back to life. As you will see in the video below, gold jewelry can be cleaned like silver jewelry with toothpaste and a toothbrush. The video says not to use toothpaste with any kind of crystals in it. This technique after asking my mom is best when there isn’t too much gunk on the piece. It can be a good starting point but for the dirtier pieces dunking the gold jewelry in rubbing alcohol for ten minutes before rinsing under water and thoroughly drying off works as stated by the video.

If I learned anything from figuring out how to shine silver, it is there are many different ways to accomplish the same end goal. The video above gives two techniques. These aren’t the only two. My mom was quick to point out baking soda is an agent that works well at cleaning all sort of jewelry.
