My step mother and I had a rocky relationship after the passing of my father There were many details to be worked through and it was touch and go for us as we handled each one of those after death affairs. As my step mother cleaned out the house and all of my father's belongings I was there to help. It is such a difficult task as anyone who has been through this well knows.

The years have passed and time has done it's magic to heal the wounds. Most recently my step mother made a big deal of giving me a piece of jewelry that my father had given her. As my step mother ages she is thinking about her own mortality. With that said, one day she gave me this beautiful grey pearl ring. The jewelry piece was a good sized grey pearl set in a wide gold wrap around band.   

Now, even though this piece of jewelry is not my style I am grateful for the gift on two levels. It was a wonderful moment between my step mother and I that I will always remember. Plus when I see and wear the pearl ring it reminds me of my father. I can feel his presence and joy with the gift of that jewelry ring.
